This cache was built in 1852 of cast iron sections and stood 100' high. The original was destroyed by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War, so a new one was built on the same site in 1872. The "new one" proved invaluable when the lives of 60 people that took refuge in it in 1915 to escape a hurricane were spared.

This cache is on private property, so be sure to obey all posted notices/warnings.
